Oscar Maxera (1927) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After he finished his academic studies, he went through an early period of figurative style. He was later influenced by the innovations of Modern Art, particularly of those pioneered by the great masters of geometry.

The Geometrical and Op Art movements inspired Maxera to evolve his style into a more technical approach, devoting himself to a profound analysis of colour. He utilized this to express subtle relationships through finely formed and placed geometric shapes.

In 1974, an exhibition was held at the Van Riel gallery where the artist presented his accomplished new abstract paintings, and started a constant expressive exploration of artistic and non artistic materials. Later, in 1981, Maxera settled in the United States where he has been living and working ever since. Maxera’s output has been greatly strengthened and nurtured by the stimuli of this significant change.
